Capturing the heart of policing
When the Office of Police and Crime Commissioner of Devon and Cornwall approached Red Rocket for a suite of new imagery, we knew it was about more than just taking pictures — it was about telling a real story. The goal was clear: capture the Devon and Cornwall Police Force and Police & Crime Commissioner in a way that genuinely reflects their day-to-day work, their connection with the community, and their commitment to keeping the region safe.
Understanding the Vision
Our task was straightforward: to photograph the Police Force and the Police & Crime Commissioner in a way that authentically captured their everyday work. These images would be used across various platforms, including printed publications like annual reports and the Police and Crime Plan, as well as websites and social media.
What we aimed for was authenticity. We wanted the images to reflect the real, human side of the police — officers engaging with the public, performing routine tasks, and responding to the unexpected challenges that come with the job. Whether it was a casual conversation with a local shopkeeper or a focused patrol through a neighbourhood, every shot was an opportunity to show the community and the people who strive to protect them.

Building a strategy
To bring the OPCC’s vision to life, we devised a comprehensive strategy that included planning, coordination, and execution. Our concept was to capture authentic and positive images of the police force, highlighting their various roles and responsibilities, and showcasing their interaction and engagement with the community.

The police photography project resulted in a successful portrayal of the Devon and Cornwall police force in a positive, authentic manner and enhanced public perception with positive portrayals of officers.
